Uzwela Foundation and the Easter Bunny were ready for another year of surprising children!  Preparations started early with handmade bunny-shaped cookies baked, individually decorated, and packaged, marshmallow Easter eggs, and Koala chocolate cakes ready for distribution.  Over the Easter weekend, we visited the Pediatrics Oncology Ward at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, Frida Hartley Shelter, Igugulethu Children’s Home, and the Rainbow Cottage at the St Francis Care Centre.

It was a massive success with 522 bunny cookies, Easter eggs, and chocolate koala cakes handed out.

  1. Pediatrics Oncology Ward – Charlotte Maxeke Hospital

This was our first stop for the Easter drive.  Each child in the oncology ward received a soft toy, bunny cookie, and Easter eggs.  They were all so excited to see the Easter Bunny!  The nursing staff also received some treats. (16 April 2022)

  1. Frida Hartley Shelter

This was our second stop for the day.  This was a challenge for the Easter Bunny, rainy weather and navigating through puddles of water and no electricity at the shelter. But we did it!  Easter treats handed out to the kiddies. (16 April 2022)

  1. Igugulethu Place of Safety

Uzwela Foundation and the Easter Bunny returned to Igugulethu for another visit (we held Easter parties in 2020 and 2021).  What a warm welcome we received; really amazing! From the toddlers to the teenagers, all so excited to see the Easter Bunny. (18 April 2022)

  1. Rainbow Cottage at St Francis

Some very excited children waited for the visit from the Easter Bunny.  But for some that have never met the Easter Bunny were a little apprehensive in the beginning. Once they realized that it was a friendly bunny, they enjoyed the treats and interaction.  One little boy had a “serious discussion” with the bunny and wanted to show him where the eggs were (see the last photo).  Another successful visit.
